PROVIDENCE, RI – With warm weather just around the corner, Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island (BCBSRI) will sponsor three separate sun safety screenings this month.

The events will take place on the following dates:

  • Wednesday, May 18 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Leon Mathieu Senior Center Wellness Fair, 420 Main Street, Pawtucket.
  • Saturday, May 21 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at The Meeting Street Walk & Family Fair, 1000 Eddy Street, Providence.
  • Tuesday, May 24 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Crossroads Rhode Island, 160 Broad Street, Providence.

Repeated exposure to the sun can have detrimental effects on the body including premature skin aging and skin cancer.  The BCBSRI screenings will use DermaViewTM technology to analyze an individual’s face for sun damage.  This allows participants to view the effects of cumulative sun exposure since early childhood.  Additionally, attendees will receive safety tips on avoiding long-term skin damage along with the proper way to use sunscreen.

No registration for the BCBSRI sun safety screening is required.

Please Note: Bare skin is best for the screening.  If you use facial moisturizer or other cosmetics that contain sunscreen, even if it has a low SPF, please remove it before the evaluation begins.
