Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island (BCBSRI) today announced the promotion of Paul Hanlon to the position of chief information officer. In this capacity, Hanlon has responsibility for BCBSRI's extensive information technology environment, as well as overseeing the company's project management office and claims processing operations. As a vice president, Hanlon is a member of the company's senior leadership team.
Hanlon also represents BCBSRI on the Rhode Island Quality Institute's (RIQI) currentcare advisory committee, which is working to develop an independent, statewide repository of electronic health records to make it easier for local providers to share patient data.
Before joining BCBSRI in 2010, Hanlon held IT leadership positions at Citizens Bank, Royal Bank of Scotland Group, and National Australia Bank. He is a 1989 graduate of the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in applied physics.
Hanlon also is a licensed soccer coach and served as a volunteer coach with the Ocean State Soccer organization for over five years, developing teams from North Kingstown and surrounding areas. He lives in East Greenwich.
