Holiday shopping? Visit Your Blue Store and give yourself the gift of health and wellness

With the holidays here, the shopping season is in full swing and all of us are making sure to check off gifts for friends, family and loved ones. But in your holiday preparations, are you triple-checking to make sure you are meeting your own health needs?

While you’re en route to your holiday shopping destination, here are three reasons to stop at one of Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island’s (BCBSRI) Your Blue Stores,

1. Take a free fitness class
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, regular physical activity can help lower your risk for heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, depression and some cancers. While we all try to stay fit, getting in shape at a fitness studio or gym can be intimidating, not to mention expensive.   Did you know that as a BCBSRI member you have the convenience of taking free fitness classes at Your Blue Store?  We have programs for members at all fitness levels with low impact classes such as yoga and meditation to more vigorous offerings like Zumba and butts & guts.  Your Blue Store is committed to accommodating busy lifestyles with classes offered throughout the day and two nights per week. In addition to fitness classes, Your Blue Store locations in East Providence, Lincoln, and Warwick also offer free wellness screenings, nutritional seminars and fun events like bingo and salsa dancing! A schedule of store offerings is available at

2. Talk to a retail consultant about your health plan options as part of open enrollment
Sometimes you just want to talk to someone in person - especially about important decisions like your health plan. More than 28,000 Rhode Islanders have visited a Your Blue Store retail location since January 2017. With Open Enrollment ending on December 31, it’s more important than ever to understand what coverage is right for you. Health insurance can be confusing, but Your Blue Store is here to make it easier, whether you are a new BCBSRI member or have been a member for many years. Our friendly staff will provide you with comprehensive information about individual and family health plans, which will help you select the right plan for your needs. Remember, open enrollment ends December 31, 2017 for a January 1, 2018 effective date.

3. Get your health questions answered
Have a question about a new or existing condition? Not sure about your medications and potential side effects? Members can walk into or make an appointment at any Your Blue Store location and get help from our nurses, dietitians, and community health specialists. Our team can talk to you about your health and specific diet needs and connect you with community agencies and support groups. In addition, our nurse case managers work with your primary care doctor to set realistic health goals and plan how you can reach those goals. Our case management team is here to help you find the resources to improve your daily life and overall health needs.

Regardless of your holiday shopping destination, be sure to swing by a Your Blue Store to make sure your health doesn’t take a back seat this holiday season. You won’t regret it.
