June 15 is Deadline for Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island Open Enrollment Period for Individual and Family Plans

(Providence, RI, 6.1.2011)
  -

The open enrollment period for purchasing health insurance directly from Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island (BCBSRI) is currently open and will conclude on June 15. BCBSRI is the only insurer in Rhode Island to offer guaranteed coverage, regardless of health status or preexisting conditions, during its annual open enrollment period.

Plans for Individuals and Families are available to any Rhode Islander, including domestic partners, who cannot get health insurance through an employer, Medicare, or Medicaid.

BCBSRI offers five different Individual and Family Plans, with differing levels of coverage to suit a wide variety of needs, as well as a dental plan. The insurer also offers three ways to reduce premiums for those who qualify, including:

  • AccessBlue, which helps qualifying individuals and families by paying a portion of their BCBSRI premium.
  • Preferred Rate, which offers lower premium rates based on age, gender, and health status, if individuals pass a health screening, via a written questionnaire.
  • Wellness Reward Program, which allows individuals to earn a reward equal to 10 percent of their annual paid premiums if they complete a series of wellness requirements.

The company is hosting an informational meeting in Pawtucket where representatives will answer questions about the plans. The session will be held at:

  • Comfort Inn, 2 George Street, Pawtucket (June 10 at 10:30 a.m.)
