Thanks for taking valuable time during your day to learn more about what’s happening at BCBSRI. As we are now well into the very busy fall season, there is a lot to tell you.

First, I’m very excited to share that we have earned an “Excellent” accreditation status by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) for exceptional service and clinical quality for our commercial preferred provider organization (PPO). Additionally, BCBSRI was rated 4.5 out of 5 in NCQA’s Private Health Insurance Ratings 2017-2018 making it the top-rated PPO plan in Rhode Island and in the top 4 percent nationally—one of the highest-rated health insurance plans in the nation. It’s gratifying to get this recognition from our ongoing collaborative efforts with local providers to ensure Rhode Islanders receive the highest-quality and most cost-effective care.

Another great piece of news—in partnership with our HSA partner London Health, we are rolling out a new member HSA portal that our mutual customers will find much easier to use. The portal offers intuitive navigation with easy access to balances, claims information, and investments right up front, and a full range of educational resources so that members can get the most out of their accounts.

As we work through the renewal season, I wanted to thank you for your support as our New England Health Plans (NEHP)—BlueCHIP Blue Choice New England and BlueCHIP Network Blue New England—are introduced into the marketplace. The NEHP plans:

  • Work well for employees and families living in other New England states or for businesses headquartered in Rhode Island that have regional satellite offices
  • Offer the flexibility of regional care to employees here in Rhode Island
  • Include the vast majority of Rhode Island and Massachusetts hospitals in-network
  • Place coordinated care at the center of these plans, which can lead to better care at lower costs
  • Offer lower premiums to help control costs

Finally, a brief update on our continuous improvement efforts. We’ve made a number of enhancements to our primary care provider (PCP) selection process that are being embedded into application and enrollment, welcome kit materials, and self-service channels. You will be hearing more about improvements like these, as we seek to better understand your experiences doing business with us, and find ways to reduce pain points that make your interactions with us even more effective.

As the year comes to a close I want to thank you for your partnership in supporting our mutual clients. On behalf of everyone here at Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island, best wishes to you and your families for a happy holiday season.
