What You Need to Know About Healthcare Reform

1. We’re focusing on healthcare reform education so you can focus on your clients.

At Blue Cross, we have healthcare reform experts going through thousands of pages of regulations to see how the Affordable Care Act impacts our customers and your clients. On this website, you’ll find general information on how the Affordable Care Act affects employers as well as detailed FAQs(See sidebar at right for additional information.) And if you get questions from your clients that you can’t answer, please ask us. 2. You can take advantage of our educational sessions for you and your Blue Cross clients.

As a local company, we can share important information with you and your Blue Cross clients through educational sessions. Over the next few months, we’ll be holding educational seminars on the impact of healthcare reform on small businesses. Sign up for one today—and please share the information with your Blue Cross clients. 

3. Our health plans are changing to comply with the Affordable Care Act.

Under the Affordable Care Act, you’ll see changes to our benefits, deductibles, out-of-pocket maximums, and more. The regulations can be different for small (less than 50 eligible employees) versus large employers, for fully insured versus self-insured plans, and for grandfathered versus non-grandfathered plans. It’s a lot to keep straight, which is why we’re taking care of it for you and your clients. No matter which market your clients are in, our 2014 health plans will meet the requirements for the Affordable Care Act. All your clients need to do is choose the plan that works best.

4. Your commission schedule should remain the same, on and off HealthSource RI (the state’s health insurance marketplace/exchange).

Many of you have had questions about the broker commission schedule, and, at this time, we don’t expect there will be any changes. This is true whether or not your clients purchase their plans through HealthSource RI.

5. Healthcare reform is an ongoing conversation.

You can expect to hear from us often about healthcare reform updates and see new additions to this website. We’re working with the state on a daily basis to implement upcoming provisions of the Affordable Care Act, including HealthSource RI, our state’s health insurance marketplace for individuals and small employers. We’ll keep you informed of the important details that you and your clients need.
