Making a difference together

Rhode Island is our home, and we are grateful for the chance to support our friends and neighbors during this difficult time.

Supporting the work of our community partners

Many of the organizations supporting COVID-19 efforts are the nonprofits we work with throughout the year to improve the health of Rhode Islanders. We’re proud to also support their important work during this pandemic:

  • COVID-19 Response Fund: United Way of Rhode Island and Rhode Island Foundation
  • COVID-19 Behavioral Health Fund: Rhode Island Foundation
  • COVID-19 Homeless Response Team: Crossroads Rhode Island, Amos House, Providence Rescue Mission
  • Rhode Island PBS short film series, Kids Want to Know

Delivering and donating supplies

Your Blue Van is usually stationed at health fairs around the state, but now we are using it weekly to deliver supplies for the Rhode Island Coalition of the Homeless. To help keep people safe and prevent the spread of COVID-19, we are transporting necessary supplies such as gloves, thermometers, disinfecting wipes, toilet paper, and hand sanitizer to dozens of locations across the state.

To help protect our first responders as well as our state’s most vulnerable citizens, we also donated hand sanitizing products to:

  • The City of Providence emergency responders
  • The State of Rhode Island
  • Crossroads Rhode Island
  • Family Service of Rhode Island
  • Child and Family Rhode Island

Volunteering to help neighbors in need

All BCBSRI full-time employees are given 12 hours of paid volunteer time annually, and our BlueAngel volunteers have been using that time—and their own time—to:

  • Deliver daily meals to homebound older adults through Meals on Wheels
  • Sew masks for Rhode Island’s healthcare and direct service professionals
  • Donate blood at the Rhode Island Blood Center
  • Consult with local nonprofits via Zoom on professional services such as human resources, legal services, financial management, and communications
