BlueCHiP Coordinated Health Plan (BlueCHiP) is a coordinated care plan offered by Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island (BCBSRI). BlueCHiP is designed to respond to Rhode Islanders' need for simple, affordable and comprehensive healthcare.

• BlueCHiP gives members access to the healthcare they need, when they need it.
  BlueCHiP members enjoy ease of access to medical care because they coordinate all their healthcare needs through their personal primary care physician (PCP). After evaluating the member's needs, the physician then provides or arranges care through our extensive network of healthcare professionals and facilities throughout Rhode Island.
• BlueCHiP encourages members to establish and maintain a long-lasting relationship with their personal physicians.
  Working together, patients and physicians can identify health risks, prevent minor health problems from becoming serious conditions, and share in decisions about treatment options. We recommend that members remain with their PCP for at least a year to maintain continuity of care with someone who knows them and their medical history.
• BlueCHiP encourages members to be active participants in their health plan.
  We encourage members to see their PCP on a regular basis and actively participate in their healthcare. Members receive a detailed statement about their rights and responsibilities with BlueCHiP, as well as comprehensive information on getting the most from their healthcare benefits.
• BCBSRI continually evaluates and works to improve overall quality of care.
  Quality of care is a priority. We maintain that quality through the stringent credentialing of providers and our comprehensive Quality Management Program. This program identifies, studies and develops feedback systems for improving quality of care and service. It also includes case management programs for chronic high-risk patients, ongoing patient satisfaction surveys, and information management systems to track and monitor medical outcomes. We are also fully accredited by the National Committee on Quality Assurance (NCQA), an independent, nonprofit organization that promotes improvement in the quality of patient care in managed care organizations.

And BlueCHiP's Coordinated Health Plan uniform pricing structure offers predictable premiums and significantly lower rates. The result?   With BlueCHiP Coordinated Health Plan, members enjoy comprehensive healthcare coverage, from basic preventive services to emergency and urgent care to specialty care. Prescription drug coverage is available, as well as a Flex Rider, which allows members to access services outside the participating provider network or without a referral.
• Accessibility
  Our growing provider network includes more than 2,000 physicians and other healthcare professionals, as well as most major hospitals in Rhode Island. Chances are, new members will find their personal physician already belongs to our network. For BlueCHiP Coordinated Health Plan members, healthcare is always close at hand.
• Personal service
  BCBSRI's Customer Service representatives provide a single point of contact for claims, enrollment and membership questions. Many unique service enhancements are currently being developed, including a member outreach program, which begins with welcoming phone calls to new members.
