health plan. Here are just a few of its many standard features:
Total care. Hospital care, office visits, outpatient surgery, prescription drugs, behavioral health - they're all covered with HealthMate Coast-to-Coast. Doctors who participate directly with Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island will obtain required pre-authorization for our members.
Freedom to choose. Members are free to choose the doctor or specialist of their choice. No referrals are needed. To visit network
providers, a member simply calls and schedules an appointment, and pays any applicable copayment. In most cases, when a member visits a non-network provider, he or she is covered at 80% of the allowable amount, after any applicable copayments and deductibles have been met. Accessing care couldn't be easier.
Established local network. Our vast network covers members wherever they are. Our local network consists of all hospitals in Rhode Island
and some in Massachusetts; approximately 96% of Rhode Island doctors; and all Brooks and CVS pharmacies in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut.
Nationwide network. Our BlueCard PPO network links Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans nationwide. This feature gives members access to
more than 8,500 hospitals and more than 688,000 providers when traveling or residing outside of Rhode Island.
International network. Members are even covered for emergency care while traveling outside the U.S. with our BlueCard Worldwide
network. Over 200 hospitals in 34 different countries participate, making it easy to access care while abroad.
