Health Products - Vision Eyewear Program

Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island offers a comprehensive eyewear program. The Vision Eyewear Program provides HealthMate Coast-to-Coast, BlueCHiP, and Classic Blue members an annual allowance toward the cost of one pair of prescription glasses (lenses/frames) or contact lenses.

Members simply visit the eyewear provider of their choice, and then:

  • Pay for the glasses or lenses.
  • Note their Blue Cross & Blue Shield identification number on their detailed receipt.
  • Send the receipt to Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island.
  • Members will be reimbursed up to a maximum amount, once per calendar year.

Classic Blue members are also covered for one routine eye exam per calendar year. This exam is not deducted from the eyewear allowance. (Annual routine eye exams are a standard covered benefit under HealthMate Coast-to-Coast and BlueCHiP.)

  • If a member sees a participating vision care provider, the member simply pays a $10 copayment at the time of their visit.
  • If they visit a non-participating vision care provider, they simply pay for the exam in full and submit their receipt to Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island. They will be reimbursed up to our allowance, less the $10 copayment.

The Vision Eyewear Program gives members the freedom to choose their own vision care provider for prescription eyewear, and also choose the style of lenses/frames that will best suit their individual needs.
