Since 1939, Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island (BCBSRI)
has provided healthcare coverage to more Rhode Islanders than
any other carrier in the state. Over the years, our tradition
of providing service and value at the lowest possible cost has
made us the state's most trusted name in healthcare. Interestingly,
we owe our reputation for dependability to our commitment to change.
New challenges, new solutions
As times change, so do we. Particularly in the past decade, we've seen dramatic
developments in the world of healthcare. Our goal? To respond to
-- and, whenever possible, to anticipate -- these changes, so that
we always provide our members with the most up-to-date, innovative
products and services available. Today, we provide more healthcare
choices than any other carrier, assuring our members access to the
plan that meets their particular needs.
Growth and renewal
We recognize that external changes must be complemented by internal ones. In 1995,
we began an ambitious corporate-enhancement initiative to reinforce
our strengths and re-engineer for improvement. This initiative culminated
in our achievement of the following goals:
- stronger, more collaborative provider relationships
- refined, redeveloped methods of data collection and analysis
- renewed commitment to community service
Focus on the future
Inward and outward change come together in our focus on coordinated care. We are
aggressively building and refining our coordinated care capabilities
in response to our members' and markets' need to lower the cost
of healthcare while preserving its quality. This focus results in
BlueCHiP Coordinated Health Plan becoming leaders in providing comprehensive,
cost-effective, quality coordinated care.
For more than half a century, BCBSRI has been the local leader
in healthcare coverage. Our new initiatives and focus on coordinated
care, combined with our dedication to quality in healthcare and
service, are our platforms for leadership in the future.
