PROVIDENCE, R.I.—Today, nearly 600 Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island (BCBSRI) associates are spreading out across the state for Blue across Rhode Island, the company’s annual day of service. 

Marking the 15th anniversary of the event, organized teams of BCBSRI associates are taking part in volunteer projects at nonprofit organizations that are working to improve Rhode Islanders’ quality of life. Volunteers will spend the workday painting, packing, building and tackling a variety of projects that help community and social service organizations fulfill their missions. 

“As a local, nonprofit organization, we’re proud to work shoulder to shoulder with our amazing community partners to help make life better for our neighbors,” said BCBSRI President and CEO Martha L. Wofford. “Health is about so much more than what happens in the doctor’s office, and it’s immensely rewarding to support nonprofits that connect Rhode Islanders with affordable housing, nutritious food, and other crucial needs. We’re deeply grateful for the work our nonprofit partners do every day and how they serve our community with passion, dedication, and respect.” 

Since 2012, Blue across Rhode Island volunteers have contributed 43,000 hours of service to 85 organizations, with more than $1 million distributed to support community partners.   

Blue across Rhode Island is one of the largest company-sponsored volunteer events of its kind in the state. For the second year in a row, Points of Light named BCBSRI to The Civic 50, its annual list of the nation’s leading community-minded companies. This year Points of Light also specifically recognized Blue across Rhode Island with its Companywide Volunteering Activation Award for its annual day of service. 

Today, BCBSRI volunteers are supporting organizations addressing a wide range of community needs, including necessities, food security, access to safe and affordable housing, dental care, and services for children and families. This year’s event will support 15 projects at the following nonprofit partners:
