Telemedicine Modifier - Claims Edit Effective 9/1/26

We have identified claims being submitted with in-office place of service codes combined with telemedicine modifiers (93, 95, FQ, or GT). Please note, this is considered incorrect billing practice. These specific modifiers are intended to indicate that the service was provided exclusively via telemedicine.

Effective September 1, 2026, any claims that include telemedicine modifiers 93, 95, FQ, or GT but are billed with a place of service other than 02 or 10 will be denied through a system edit. To avoid any disruptions in claims processing, please ensure that telemedicine modifiers are only used when the appropriate telemedicine place of service is indicated.
