Effective October 2, 2018, percutaneous electrical neurostimulation (PENS) or percutaneous neuromodulation therapy (PNT) for the treatment of chronic pain conditions is considered medically necessary if pain is effectively controlled by percutaneous stimulation and implantation of electrodes is warranted.
