Our Utilization Management (UM) department has streamlined the PCP admission request process for skilled nursing facilities (SNFs). Once we’ve reviewed the request and made a determination, the requesting provider, the accepting SNF, and the member will be notified. The member must not be admitted to a SNF until BCBSRI provides the authorization number. (Authorization is valid for 72 hours. If the patient is not admitted within that time, a new request must be submitted.) The request form can be found in our forms section of the Provider Portal under “Coordination of Patient Care.”
