Provider trainings: Your BCBSRI.com account and submitting authorizations

BCBSRI offers a convenient self-service tool to submit prior authorizations online through the MHK Provider Portal, instead of calling or faxing your request. Our goal is to enhance your experience by giving you the tools and resources to simplify this process.

Your BCBSRI.com administrator

The first step is to ensure you have set up your BCBSRI.com account and have the correct permissions. If you do not have access yet, please contact your administrator to gain access to BCBSRI.com. If you do not know who your administrator is, contact your Provider Relations representative. If you are not sure who your Provider Relations representative is you can reach out to Provider.Relations@bcbsri.org.

Don’t see your provider on the BCBSRI portal?

Please note that only your office administrator can add providers to your BCBSRI.com account. Please ask your administrator or BCBSRI Provider Relations for assistance adding your provider to BCSRI.com. The NPI and Tax ID you enter must match what’s in BCBSRI’s system. If you provider is listed on BCBSRI but not appearing in your authorization request screen, please ensure this information is correct and updated with BCBSRI.

Always remember when using the MHK Provider Portal:

  • Have a copy of the member’s ID card. When searching for members, the information entered in the portal must be exactly as we have it in the system or the member won’t show up.
  • Make sure you are choosing the correct provider ID/facility address.
  • When searching for a servicing or facility provider, choosing “Par” if your provider is in-network with BCBSRI. If you see “Contracted” and “Par” always choose “Par.”
  • For behavioral health providers – make sure to include a note with the member’s after-care plan when submitting a discharge notification.

Still need help? Provider training sessions are now available!

BCBSRI hosts several provider trainings throughout the year to address specific issues as well as provide walkthroughs of different authorization request types. These trainings are hosted biweekly through a virtual Microsoft Teams call. Please contact Provider.Relations@bcbsri.org to sign up for one or more of these trainings.
