BCBSRI’s Safe Zone Program recognizes healthcare practices and community-based organizations formally committed to creating inclusive, affirming environments for the LGBTQ+ community.

Certified Safe Zones receive public designation from BCBSRI and are featured in our Safe Zone directory, which we actively promote to our members and all Rhode Islanders seeking care. The certification criteria reflect best practices in LGBTQ+ inclusive care, related to inclusive language, forms, and procedures; affirming patient identity; and physical space.
