Regional BlueCHiP – the New England Health Plans: What You Need to Know

NEHP plans enhance care coordination.

As you know, the most cost-effective care is coordinated through your PCP. When your employers offer our new regional BlueCHiP products, the New England Health Plans (NEHPs), that’s exactly what they get. NEHP plans include doctors and hospitals in all of the New England states but Vermont, with 11,000 PCPs, 30,000 specialists, and nearly 200 hospitals. The whole idea behind this is to provide a perfectly sized network—not too small, but not too big either—to make the best quality healthcare available for your accounts at affordable rates.

PCPs guide their patients through the healthcare system and provide referrals to specialists, and testing facilities as needed, ensuring the appropriate level of care.

PCP-coordinated care is the central tenet of our regional BlueCHiP products. Network preventive care is covered in full. That includes clinically appropriate screening tests and immunizations, physicals and some counseling.

While it’s a very effective means of overseeing one’s health, it may also add up to savings. Emergency room visits, specialist visits, hospitalizations, and drug utilization could all decrease when an individual consults with a PCP and takes a preventive approach to healthcare.
