National Alcohol Awareness Month was founded in 1987 by The National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NCADD). According to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), alcohol use disorder affects an estimated 28 million people ages 12 and over in the United States, and less than 10% of those affected receive any treatment. Alcohol Awareness Month aims to educate and provide information about alcohol use, foster candid discussion, and encourage individuals to seek treatment. Through these efforts, Alcohol Awareness Month has helped to save many lives and continues to be an essential tool in the fight against the effects of alcohol use disorder.
