The Place of Service (POS) 10 Telemedicine Payment Policy outlines BCBSRI’s implementation of a new POS code (10) for Telehealth effective April 1, 2022 (both audio visual and telephone only), as well as a change in description for the existing POS code (02) for Telehealth.

The description of POS code 02 has been revised and new POS code 10 has been created to meet the overall needs of the industry. BCBSRI will begin accepting POS 10 for claims adjudication on April 1, 2022, and requires the accurate submission of POS 10 and 02 codes when telemedicine (both audio visual and telephone only) are being rendered to BCBSRI members, for claims submitted on or after April 1, 2022.

Although POS 10 was effective January 1, 2022, BCBSRI is requesting that providers continue to submit claims with POS 02 until March 31, 2022 to allow us time to update and configure systems to timely and accurately accept and adjudicate claims with POS 10.
