Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island to Hold Blood Pressure Screenings in June

(Providence, RI, 5.28.2010)
  -

In an effort to educate the public about high blood pressure, which is sometimes referred to as the "silent killer," Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island (BCBSRI) will offer free blood pressure screenings in June. All members of the public are welcome to participate.

The two free screenings will take place on the following dates:

  • Saturday, June 5 from 10:00 a.m. to noon during the African Alliance Health Fair at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 445 Elmwood Avenue, Providence.
  • Wednesday, June 23 from 10:00 a.m. to noon at McAuley House, 622 Elmwood Avenue, Providence.

Hypertension (high blood pressure) affects an estimated one in four American adults and often has no signs or symptoms. Many people don't realize they have it, and if left untreated, it can lead to heart attack, stroke, or kidney failure. To find out your blood pressure, visit one of the blood pressure screening events in June for a free, five-minute blood pressure test.

As schedules are subject to change, please visit the Community Events Calendar on BCBSRI.com for updates.
