Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island to Sponsor Sun Safety Screening Events in June

(Providence, RI, 5.24.2011)

With summer fast approaching, Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island (BCBSRI) is helping the general public better understand the harmful effects of sun damage by holding five sun safety screening events in June.

The events will take place on the following dates:

  • Thursday, June 2 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Rhode Island Free Clinic, 655 Broad Street, Providence.
  • Saturday, June 4 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the Easter Seals Walk with Me 5K in the Roger Williams Park Carousel, 1000 Elmwood Avenue, Providence.
  • Wednesday, June 15 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Dorcas Place, 220 Elmwood Avenue, Providence.
  • Thursday, June 16 from 10:00 a.m. to noon at Camp Street Ministries, 190 Camp Street, Providence.
  • Wednesday, June 29 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Amos House, 415 Friendship Street, Providence.

Premature aging and skin cancer are just some of the harmful results of repeated exposure to the sun. BCBSRI uses DermaView(TM) technology at its screening events to analyze an individual's face for sun damage, allowing participants to view the effects of cumulative sun exposure since early childhood. Safety tips on how to avoid long-term skin damage will be provided to attendees as well.

No registration for the BCBSRI sun safety screening is required.

Please Note: Bare skin is best for the screening. If you use facial moisturizer or other cosmetics that contain sunscreen, even if it has a low SPF, please remove it before the evaluation begins.
