Free Body Composition Screenings from Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island

PROVIDENCE, RI – To help individuals better determine if they are leading a healthy lifestyle, Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island (BCBSRI) is offering two free body composition screening events during the month of June.  The events will take place on the following dates:
•    Wednesday, June 20, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the East Providence Senior Center, 610 Waterman Avenue, East Providence
•    Thursday, June 28, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the North Kingstown Senior Center, 10 Beach Street, North Kingstown

Body composition is the ratio of lean body mass to fat body mass.  Those with optimal body composition are typically healthier and feel better than those with a less-than-ideal ratio.  A certified health educator will be present at the screening to explain individual results and offer suggestions on how to improve and/or maintain a healthy body composition ratio.

It’s important to note that individuals who are exercising to lose weight may not be able to measure their progress from the scale alone.  Since muscle weighs more than fat, a person might gain muscle mass but not lose weight, which can be misleading and frustrating.  A body composition screening is the best way to determine if health goals are being achieved or if adjustments should be made to the person’s diet or exercise routine.

Please wear clothing that allows access to your bare upper arm for this 10-minute screening.  Registration is not required.

Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island is the state’s leading health insurer and covers more than 600,000 members.  The company is an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association.  For more information, visit and follow us on Twitter @BCBSRI.
