Scott Duhamel Elected to Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island Board of Directors

Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island (BCBSRI) today announced the appointment of Scott Duhamel to its board of directors.

As one of the state's most active labor leaders, Mr. Duhamel currently serves as health and welfare trustee, business representative and labor management cooperation initiative trustee for the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, as well as secretary-treasurer for the Rhode Island Building and Construction Trades Council.

"His expertise in building bridges between labor groups and the community will be an asset to BCBSRI as we continue to tackle the primary drivers of healthcare costs and improve the way healthcare is delivered in Rhode Island."

"For more than 30 years, I've been working with organized labor groups to ensure the needs of union workers are identified and met, and healthcare has been an especially active topic the last few years," said Mr. Duhamel. "I am an advocate in ensuring that all Rhode Islanders receive high-quality, affordable healthcare, and I look forward to working with BCBSRI on these important efforts in our community."

Mr. Duhamel is actively involved in the Rhode Island community and sits on a number of boards and committees, including Rhode Island AFL-CIO, Providence Central Council, Building Futures Advisory Council, Rhode Island Labor History Society and BuildRI. He is a member of the Providence First Source Commission, a position appointed to him by Mayor Taveras. Mr. Duhamel also is treasurer for Rhode Island Jobs with Justice and a steering committee member for Emerald City Collaborative.

Mr. Duhamel received a bachelor's degree from Rhode Island College. He is a resident of Cranston, Rhode Island.
